Religious Education
To teach in order to lead others to faith is the task....of each believer.
— St. Thomas Aquinas
One of the important mandates of any parish is to educate the young in their faith. Here at St. Monica's we offer Religious Education for students beginning with Kindergarten and continuing through preparation for Confirmation in Grade 10. Our mission is to teach the basics of the faith and to instill in our young people the desire to worship and serve the Lord.
We employ three dedicated professionals to coordinate this huge task: Claire Tebeau (grades K-5), Mrs. Laurene Costello (The EDGE, grades 6-8), and Mrs. Wendy Adams (Confirmation, grades 9-10).
But the backbone of the Religious Education program is the volunteer force, who operate as Catechists, Teachers' Helpers and Hall Monitors. If you are a confirmed, practicing Catholic and you think God may be calling you to help in this critical ministry, please consider volunteering. To enroll students or to volunteer, contact Claire (Grades K-5), Laurene (The EDGE, grades 6-8), or Wendy (Confirmation, Grades 9-10), anytime between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., Monday through Friday at (978) 686 9573.
Like all volunteers who work with children or seniors, volunteers in our Religious Education program are required by the Archdiocese of Boston to go through VIRTUS training (once), to submit to an annual CORI check, and to avail themselves of ongoing educational opportunities offered by the parish and the Archdiocese.
The benefits of working as a volunteer in our Religious Education program are many, and include the satisfaction of spreading the Good News, the ability to spend quality educational time with children (including your own!), and the peace that comes from doing God's will by using the gifts He's given you. But there is an additional incentive to working with CCD: the enrichment of your own faith that comes from the necessity of being able to teach it.
