Saint Monica School
St. Monica School is located in historic Methuen, Massachusetts, home to the Searles, Nevins and Tenney estates and the home town of Major Robert Rogers, the founder of the U.S. Army's Rangers.
Our school was founded in 1958 by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, a religious order founded in France in 1804 by St. Julie Billiart. In 1859 the Sisters came to the Merrimack Valley and opened a school at Saint Mary Parish in Lawrence. From there, the Sisters came every Sunday to teach religious education at Saint Monica's Church in Methuen, which at that time was a mission of Saint Mary Parish.
Today, over fifty years after its founding, St. Monica School offers a strong, Catholic education to students in grades K through 8 students from throughout the Merrimack Valley and Southern New Hampshire. Our facility has a state-of-the-art computer lab, a brand new science lab, dedicated space for music and art instruction, a well-stocked library, classrooms wired for internet and a security system.
We offer an after-school program with diversified opportunities for students until 6:00pm. In addition to a physical education program, we offer basketball and other after-school and weekend athletic opportunities.
Most of all, St. Monica School offers families the opportunity to give their children the chance to excel academically by receiving instruction from dedicated teachers in small class settings (our students test at the highest percentiles on the Terra Nova standardized test and are regularly accepted by local Catholic high schools), to form lasting bonds with their classmates (we have an active Alumni Society), and to develop their Catholic identity in an environment that models and encourages traditional Catholic morality. As a private school, St. Monica's can and does teach eternal Truth and rejects moral relativism. All in all, we are proud to be able to provide a quality education in a safe, disciplined, and caring Catholic environment.
